Assessment and Reporting

At St Nicholas of Myra, our staff share in an understanding about assessment that reflects a belief that all students can learn.

Teachers use a variety of techniques and strategies to monitor children's development of skills and knowledge, such as observations, feedback and feedforward, student goals, written assessments, and national assessments such as the National Assessment Program (NAPLAN).

It is vital that there is regular communication - both formal and informal - about a student’s progress, with opportunities being afforded to parents to provide the teacher with observations and insights about their child.

We believe that no assessment should be used in isolation to determine student needs. Reporting is provided in a variety of formats to gauge a student's learning needs and individuality. The following reporting methods are provided to parents.

  • upon personal request for an interview - this is by appointment only
  • mid-year conference and mid-year report
  • written report at the end of the year
