2019 Stage 3 Leadership Day
Year 4 and 5 students took part in the 2019 Stage 3 Leadership Day. Students worked in teams to problem solve through a range of tasks with a focus on the skills needed to be active leaders at St Nicholas in 2019. The day consisted of a range of fun activities where students focused on the skills of communicating, teamwork and problem solving. A great experience and we look forward to our 2019 Stage 3 students leading the school to be safe, respectful learners.

π€πβ€οΈ Yesterday, our school community gathered for a special NAIDOC Week liturgy, where we reflected on the rich cultures, histories and enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. π£ As part of our celebration, students created footprints to remind us of the journey of First Nations peoples. These footprints also symbolise that each of us has a role to play in walking together with respect, understanding and hope. The footprints formed a circle where students sat during the liturgy, representing that everyone is welcome, everyone is equal, and everyone belongs. As we gathered together, we were reminded to listen with kind hearts β€οΈ, learn from one another π, and continue our shared journey of reconciliation π€.

Today, our Stage 2 students gathered for an engaging Zoom session with the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD) in Canberra, joining students from schools across Australia for a special NAIDOC Week presentation. We had the privilege of listening to author Corey Tutt read his new book, Come Home, Bigibila, and share the inspiration and meaning behind the story. Our students were thrilled when Corey answered one of the questions they had submitted in the interactive question and answer chat. Corey also spoke about the significance of NAIDOC Week and encouraging everyone to always show kindness and respect to others. It was a wonderful learning experience, and our students thoroughly enjoyed being part of this special event. β€οΈπ€π

π Olympics Unleashed at St Nicholas of Myra π Today, our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students were privileged to welcome Luci Marsh, Australian Water Polo player, as part of the Olympics Unleashed program. Luci shared her inspiring journey in sport, speaking openly about both her successes and disappointments. She discussed the importance of setting goals for the present, near future and long term, and provided students with practical strategies for achieving them. Luci also highlighted the value of resilience, perseverance and bouncing back when things do not go as planned. Our students were engaged and inspired by Luciβs passion, determination and commitment to pursuing her dreams. Thank you, Luci, for sharing your experiences and encouraging our students to believe in themselves and strive for their goals. On Friday 26 June, we will join together as a school community to show our support for the Socceroos as they represent Australia on the world stage. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to come together in a spirit of pride, teamwork, and celebration of Australian sport. To mark the occasion, we will be having a Socceroos Green and Gold Day (splash of colour). Students are encouraged to add a touch of green and gold to their school sports uniform if they wish (for example, a ribbon, socks, scarf, hat, or headband). Please note that all students are still required to wear their full school sports uniform, including closed-in shoes. Letβs come together to cheer on the Socceroos and celebrate Australian spirit! π St Vincent de Paul Certificate of Appreciation π Today, our Faith in Action Team proudly accepted a Certificate of Appreciation from the St Vincent de Paul Society in recognition of the generosity shown by the St Nicholas of Myra School Community. Thank you to all our students, families and staff who contributed winter donations to support those in need within our local community.
